Do hardwood floors add value to a home?

Do hardwood floors add value to a home?

We get this question a lot, and at Factory Flooring Direct, we can say definitely, yes. Hardwood floors are a permanent fixture for the home, and hardwood adds class and history to the house. The deep majestic hues of a wood flooring with its particular grains and whorls take you back to a simpler time. In addition, the sound of the floor underfoot lends to its stability and grace. So whether you are looking for a more casual den or bedroom, or a more elegant dining room, hardwood floors are a great choice.

Color and species

When choosing a hardwood floor, two things to consider are species and stain color. Each wood species, be it maple, hickory, oak, or cherry, has a specific grain that goes with it. This grain will affect how the floor pattern looks overall once completed. For example, oak and walnut have straight grain patterns, while cherry and maple tend to have more burls and curls in their grain. We also have some exotic woods if you are interested in overseas wood.

Some of these woods look great in a natural finish. But if you want to darken the color a bit, we have a wide selection of stains. You may want to have a unique room, where the outer edge is one stain color, and the inner portion is a different stain color. Whatever design you want or can imagine, our installers can do with a wide selection of materials.

Distressed

Another option you have is to have distressed wood. For example, a distressed hardwood floor has been hand-scraped and distressed by a craftsman that gives the wood an older appearance. The distressed wood is then hand-finished. These are perfect for those areas in your home that you want to appear rustic or woodsy.

Solid vs. Engineered

It depends on the location of the wood flooring that will determine what type of floor you will choose. Solid hardwood is an ideal choice for above-grade areas in your home where it can be nailed down to a subfloor. Engineered hardwood is better for basements and concrete slabs. Both types of flooring are beautiful and add to the value of the home.
